About Senior Companions There are often barriers for seniors who want to adoption a cat or kitten for companionship. These may include difficulty completing the adoption application because of technology barriers of electronic online formats, difficulty writing due to arthritis or inability to print the paper application at home. There may be economic barriers for seniors to adopt though they would make wonderful cat parents. Seniors and / or their families may have concerns about committing to a cat due to advanced age / health conditions. Age alone should not be the reason a cat in need of a loving home cannot be adopted by a senior who desires companionship and comfort.
What are the Benefits of the Senior Companions Program * Reduced or waived adoption fees. (if funding is available) * Assistance with completion of the adoption application by phone or in person * Option to return the cat back to Beare Garden Animal Rescue for any reason including being unable to provide care due to physical limitations or admission to a facility that doesn't allow pets. * Assistance with veterinary bills post adoption based on availability of funds (if funding is available) * Assistance with transportation to veterinary appointments via volunteers or uber if needed (if funding is available) * Community presentations at local senior centers about the program * Community presentations at local senior centers about cat care * Placement of flyers about the Senior Companions at local senior centers
